Welcome to this week’s TNPSC current affairs roundup. Every item below comes from official PIB press releases issued between 29 October and 4 November 2026. We have summarised them in our own words and added a one-line “exam angle” to each, so you can link news to your static syllabus. Use this as quick weekly revision, and read the Sources list at the end for the full releases.
Note: PIB headlines give only the broad picture. For figures, dates and fine details, always check the original release. For exam notifications, check tnpsc.gov.in.
Tamil Nadu Connect and Culture
- Kashi Tamil Sangamam 5.0: A high-level meeting at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, reviewed preparations for the fifth edition of this Tamil Nadu–Kashi cultural programme.
Exam angle: Useful for Tamil culture, Indian cultural integration and “events in the news” questions. Remember the venue city (Varanasi) and the host university.
- Shilp Samagam Mela 2026: Dilli Haat hosted this crafts fair, with live cultural performances and traditional handicrafts on display.
Exam angle: Link it to handicrafts, GI-tagged products and artisan promotion. Tamil Nadu has many famous crafts, so revise them.
Defence and International Relations
- India–Canada defence dialogue: The two countries held their first defence dialogue.
Exam angle: “First-ever” events are favourite one-liners. Note the countries and the word “first”.
- Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue 2026: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke about diversifying supply chains and strengthening mutual dependence in the maritime domain, amid a tense security climate.
Exam angle: Connect it with the Indo-Pacific, maritime security and supply-chain resilience in International Relations.
- Keralam’s Governor meets the Prime Minister: The PIB release uses the name “Keralam” for the state.
Exam angle: Revise the Governor’s appointment and office (Articles 153–156). Always follow the official spelling used in government documents.
Economy, Business and Regulation
- CCI approves a renewable-energy investment: The Competition Commission of India cleared Sapphire US Holdco (USA), LLC to subscribe to certain securities of Gentari Renewables India Private Limited.
- CCI approves a banking deal: The Commission also cleared Kotak Mahindra Bank’s acquisition of certain businesses of Deutsche Bank AG, along with related transactions.
Exam angle (both): CCI is the statutory regulator under the Competition Act, 2002. It reviews mergers and acquisitions (“combinations”) to protect competition. Do not confuse it with SEBI or RBI.
- Commerce Minister inaugurates buildings in Jaipur: Piyush Goyal opened Vanijya Bhawan and Udyog Bhawan in Jaipur.
Exam angle: Remember the ministry (Commerce and Industry) and the city. “Who inaugurated what, where” is a common question type.
- Special Campaign 6 concludes: The Department of Food and Public Distribution wrapped up its Special Campaign 6.
Exam angle: Links to the Public Distribution System and food security. Revise the National Food Security Act basics.
Health, Social Welfare and Governance
- Drug quality crackdown proposal: The Union Health Ministry proposed immediate suspension of manufacturing licences for medicines that fail critical quality standards.
Exam angle: Health policy and regulation. Note the ministry and the word “proposed”, since it is not yet final.
- Vayo Samman National Campaign: Union Minister Dr Virendra Kumar launched it to strengthen bonds between generations.
Exam angle: Senior citizens’ welfare falls under social justice schemes. Remember the minister’s name and the campaign’s theme.
- Armed Forces medical camp at Rayrangpur: The Armed Forces Medical Services treated over 4,000 patients and performed 365 sight-restoring surgeries at a mega multi-speciality camp.
Exam angle: Remember the numbers and the force involved. It is a good example of civil–military health outreach.
- “Samavesh se Vikas” and PM VIKAS: The Ministry of Minority Affairs reviewed implementation of PM VIKAS and worked on engaging more stakeholders.
Exam angle: Minority welfare schemes appear in the Social Justice section.
- E-Filing 3.0 workshop: The Department of Justice held a workshop for ministries and departments titled “Process to Behaviour”.
Exam angle: E-governance and digital administration, a key theme in Development Administration.
- Naxal-Free Bharat dialogue: A PIB Nagpur interaction on Gadchiroli stressed security, development and community participation.
Exam angle: Internal security. Remember the three-pronged approach: security, development and people’s participation.
Energy, Youth and Innovation
- PM Surya Ghar: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said the rooftop solar scheme has become a true people’s movement.
Exam angle: Renewable energy, rooftop solar and household electricity are all recurring topics in Economy and Environment.
- MY Bharat’s Viksit Bharat Yuva Samvad: Under the “Know Your Vote” campaign, MY Bharat held 100 events in a single day.
Exam angle: Voter awareness and youth engagement. Link it to the Election Commission and Article 324.
- IPRD 2026: Dr Jitendra Singh said India aims for global competitiveness through indigenous capability and international cooperation.
Exam angle: Science and technology policy. Note the minister and the “self-reliance plus collaboration” theme.
Science and Technology Highlights
- Terahertz silicon chip: A new silicon chip can pass terahertz waves through obstacles, and it may help develop future 6G networks.
Exam angle: Remember “terahertz” and “6G”. Terahertz waves lie between microwaves and infrared in the electromagnetic spectrum.
- Protective coating for superalloys: An advanced coating improves the machining of superalloys, benefiting aerospace, energy and petrochemical sectors.
Exam angle: Materials science. Note the three industries that benefit.
Practical Takeaways for This Week
- Make one-liners: Write each item as “who + what + where” on a single flash card.
- Link news to static topics: CCI (Competition Act), Governor (Articles 153–156), Election Commission (Article 324), PDS (food security).
- Memory aid for this week: “D-E-H-S“: Defence, Economy, Health, Science. Recall at least two items from each.
- Group 4 aspirants: Focus on schemes, ministers and “first-ever” events. Group 1 and 2 aspirants should also think about why each development matters.
- Gap to fill: This week’s PIB items had little on Tamil Nadu government schemes. Add them from official Tamil Nadu government releases and revise your state-level notes.
